The Iranian executioners have killed Makwan. Makwan lives on in us.
Emails, postcards and letters from all over the world and from people of all ages are continuing to reach the Teheran authorities pleading for clemency for a gay boy whose only sin was that of loving a peer when he was only 13 years old. But the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Head of the Judiciary and the other authorities have totally ignored all our requests, all our entreaties and carried out the most ruthless cruelty in the name of a bloodthirsty God, who is certainly not the God of love that true Muslims worship, but a product of hatred, discrimination and prejudice.
But the Hearts Campaign does not end here. Hundreds of people have taken up pens, crayons and computers, drawn lots of hearts and sent them off with messages such as: “We love Makwan”, “Makwan is innocent”, “Pardon Makwan”. Instead the executioners broke Makwan’s body and took his breath away for ever. But Makwan is now a symbol and symbols cannot die. Makwan’s name will now echo throughout the corners of the world calling out for justice; his symbol will be more powerful than hatred, much greater than death. We wish to create a gallery in the young martyr’s memory, a young man killed by homophobia. We ask you all to send in drawings of hearts dedicated to Makwan’s memory. We will gather them together and they will become the symbol of a way of loving which at the present is bound in chains, but which one day - thanks also to the sacrifice of people like Makwan - will be free and finally be able to “say its name” openly and publicly.

Cuori per Makwan, cuori per un mondo senza omofobia
I carnefici iraniani hanno ammazzato Makwan. Makwan vive in noi.
Da tutto il mondo continuano ad arrivare alle autorità di Teheran email, cartoline e lettere scritte da persone di tutte le età che chiedono clemenza per il ragazzo gay, la cui colpa è quella di aver amato un coetaneo quando aveva 13 anni. Ma il presidente della Repubblica Islamica, il ministro della Giustizia e le altre autorità hanno ignorato ogni richiesta, ogni supplica e hanno esercitato la più spietata crudeltà, in nome di un dio sanguinario che non è certo il dio d'amore che i veri Musulmani adorano, ma solo un prodotto dell'odio, della discriminazione, del pregiudizio. La Campagna dei Cuori non si ferma. Centinaia di persone hanno disegnato con matite, penne, pastelli o con il computer tanti cuori e li hanno spediti insieme ai loro messaggi che dicevano: "Noi amiamo Makwan", "Makwan è innocente", "Grazia per Makwan". I boia hanno straziato il corpo di Makwan e gli hanno tolto per sempre il respiro. Però Makwan è adesso un simbolo e i simboli non possono morire. Il nome di Makwan riecheggerà da adesso in ogni angolo del mondo e chiederà giustizia; sarà più forte dell'odio, più grande della morte. Vogliamo creare una galleria in memoria del giovane martire, ucciso dall'omofobia. Ora chiediamo a tutti di inviarci disegni di cuori dedicati al ricordo di Makwan. Li raccoglieremo e diventeranno il simbolo di un modo di amare che oggi è in catene, ma che un giorno, anche grazie al sacrificio di persone come Makwan, sarà libero e potrà liberamente e in pubblico "dire il suo nome".
