The fire on monday 7th january in Aprilia (Latina): The daily magazine “Il Tempo” also considers the fire an attempt on the lives of 100 Rroms. EveryOne Group: “we will report this episode to the European Parliament too. Urgent measures are needed”

Their intention was to kill a hundred or so Rroms who had been living for some time in an abandoned wine-making factory, “Enotria”, on the Via Nettunense road at Aprilia, Latina. This was the aim of 10-12 Italians (probably very young) armed with wooden bars, as some passers-by and car drivers who witnessed the attack reported to the authorities. At about 10.30 p.m., the gang threw some Molotov cocktails and incendiary bombs into the abandoned factory where about 100 citizens of Rrom origin had taken refuge, and against several parked cars belonging to the same. The news was reported (as well as by the Romanian press Mediafax and Hotnews, and Realitatea TV) by the Latina edition of “Il Tempo”. “The episode that took place on Monday evening was a definite act of intolerance and an attempt to intimidate”, wrote the journalist Letizia Floreno.

“Finally, and for the first time, a daily newspaper has admitted that the fire was a racist attack”, commented Roberto Malini, Matteo Pegoraro and Dario Picciau, the leaders of Gruppo EveryOne. “There is a need now for a serious inquiry and urgent measures against these racist criminals that will discourage other groups from carrying out similar actions in defiance of these people’s fundamental rights”. George Scarlat, the Romanian journalist who writes for the newspaper “Ziua”, also a member of EveryOne, describes the attempt as follows: “There was an obvious intention to kill. I saw on Romanian TV the scenes of the burnt walls and traces of smoke that reached up to the second floor, between two windows. Fortunately, the thugs missed their target when throwing the incendiary bombs into the building.”

The Senza Confine association has reported the case, the MPs Frias, Deiana and Falomi have taken it to the Home Secretary and now Gruppo EveryOne adds its voice to theirs: “We will take the case to the European Parliament and send an up-to-date dossier of the latest terrible episodes of racial violence carried out against Romanian Rrom citizens to the UN High Commission on Human Rights and to the International Criminal Court of the Hague - to which we have already sent an international denunciation for crimes against humanity in reference to the persecution of the gypsies in Italy by the central and local authorities, who have permitted (when they are not carrying it out themselves) the spread of xenophobic violence, by minimizing the disastrous consequences”. These violent episodes are exasperated by conditions of extreme poverty, hunger, cold and serious infections the Rrom gypsies are now subject to after being thrown onto the street by the recent camp clearances.

Gruppo EveryOne: “denunceremo in Europa anche quest’episodio. Servono provvedimenti urgenti”

Volevano uccidere un centinaio di Rrom, stanziati da tempo nell’edificio di una ex ditta vinicola abbandonata – la “Enotria” – sulla via Nettunense, ad Aprilia, Latina. Questa l’intenzione di dieci-dodici italiani armati di spranghe di legno – probabilmente giovanissimi, così come riferito alle autorità da alcuni passanti e automobilisti testimoni del gesto – che intorno alle 22,30 di lunedì 7 gennaio avrebbero lanciato molotov e bottiglie incendiarie contro l’ex fabbrica in cui si erano rifugiati circa 100 cittadini di etnia Rrom e contro alcune autovetture in sosta, in uso agli stessi. A darne notizia, oltre alle agenzie di stampa romene Mediafax e Hotnews, e alla romena Realitatea TV, l’edizione di Latina de “Il Tempo” di  ieri. “Quello avvenuto lunedì sera è stato di sicuro un gesto di intolleranza e l'intento era quello di intimidire” scrive la giornalista Letizia Floreno.

“Per la prima volta finalmente un quotidiano ammette che si tratta di un agguato a sfondo razziale” commentano Roberto Malini, Matteo Pegoraro e Dario Picciau, i leader del Gruppo EveryOne. “Ora servono indagini serie e urgenti provvedimenti che perseguano i malviventi razzisti, e ne dissuadano altri dal compiere azioni in spregio ai diritti fondamentali della persona”. Il giornalista romeno del quotidiano “Ziua” George Scarlat, anch’egli membro di EveryOne, descrive così l’attentato: “L’intenzione di uccidere era chiara. Ho visto alla TV romena le riprese delle pareti bruciate e tracce di fumo che arrivavano al secondo piano, fra due finestre. I teppisti fortunatamente hanno sbagliato la mira nel gettare le bottiglie incendiarie.”

All’associazione Senza Confine, che ha denunciato il caso, e ai deputati Frias, Deiana e Falomi che hanno presentato un’interrogazione al Ministro degli Interni, si aggiunge ora la voce di EveryOne: “Porteremo il caso in Europa, e invieremo un dossier aggiornato agli ultimi terribili episodi di violenza razziale che hanno coinvolto cittadini Rrom romeni all’ufficio dell’Alto Commissariato per i Diritti Umani dell’ONU e alla Corte Penale Internazionale de L’Aia, ai quali è già pervenuta una nostra denuncia internazionale per crimini contro l’umanità, in riferimento alla persecuzione dei Rrom in Italia, nei confronti delle istituzioni centrali e periferiche italiane, che permettono, quando non lo avvallano, il dilagare di violenza xenofobia, minimizzandone le disastrose conseguenze”.

A questi episodi violenti si sommano le condizioni disperate di povertà, fame, freddo e gravi infezioni che affliggono i Rrom rimasti all'addiaccio dopo gli sgomberi.
