Racist Italy kills.

The lives of hundreds of people from the Rrom ethnic group are in danger after the camp clearances that kicked them out onto the streets exposed them to the harsh winter weather and hunger, without any  assistance and means of support. Desperate human beings are dying of deprivation; dying shortly after coming into this world, of poverty, cold and infections; they die in the dark, killed in the streets by faceless, nameless murderers; they die a violent death, by blades and bullets.
Last night, in Rome, the freezing temperatures of the New Year claimed yet another life. The newspapers describe him as a “tramp”, a “vagabond”, a “homeless person”. La Repubblica wrote: “He has not yet been identified because he had no papers on him”. The man, however, is the umpteenth Romanian victim, a disabled 43-year-old forced by prejudice to live on the fringes of our capital city. He was found dead in a sleeping-bag in Piazza Mastai, in the Trastevere district. It appears he died of cold and hardship. Whether this is true or not, we will have to make do with this official version, because we will never know if the cause of death was even more tragic - they will never tell us. R.M.

Sono centinaia le persone di etnia rrom la cui vita è a rischio, dopo che le procedure di sgombero le hanno messe sulla strada, esposte ai rigori invernali e alla fame, senza assistenza né mezzi di sostentamento. Esseri umani disperati muoiono a causa degli stenti; muoiono poco dopo aver visto la luce, di povertà, freddo e infezioni; muoiono al buio, uccisi sulle strade da assassini senza nome né volto; muoiono di morte violenta, colpiti da armi bianche e proiettili. Ieri notte, a Roma, il gelo di capodanno ha reclamato un'altra vita. I giornali lo definiscono "barbone", "clochard" o "senzatetto". "Non è stato identificato poiché non aveva con sé documenti," scrive La Repubblica. In realtà si tratta dell'ennesima vittima romena, un 43enne disabile costretto dal pregiudizio a sopravvivere ai margini dei margini della Capitale. L'hanno trovato morto in un sacco a pelo, in piazza Mastai, nel quartiere di Trastevere. Sembra che sia morto di freddo e privazioni. Vera o falsa che sia, dovremo accontentarci di questa versione da parte delle autorità, perché se le cause del decesso fossero ancora più tragiche, non lo sapremo mai, non ce lo diranno mai. R.M.
