EveryOne Group: “Mehdi will be heard by a dutch judge on monday morning”

Seyed Mehdi Kazemi, the twenty-year-old Iranian homosexual, member of EveryOne Group, in danger of being returned to the United Kingdom from Holland, and then repatriated to Iran (where he is wanted for the crime of “lavat”, sodomy, and where he would be put to death for this homosexuality), is being held in custody in the Dutch detention centre of Zestienhoven, near Rotterdam airport.

On February 27th the activists of EveryOne Group asked the Dutch Ambassador in Rome to intervene with the Dutch immigration office and ask the authorities where Mehdi is being held to allow the boy to contact his uncle in London (who had had no news of the boy for days), as soon as possible. “On Wednesday afternoon Mehdi did in fact contact his uncle. He told him he is still being held in the detention centre of Rotterdam” say the leaders of EveryOne, Matteo Pegoraro, Roberto Malini and Dario Picciau. “The boy is continuing his hunger strike. Both Mehdi’s uncle, and Omar Kuddus, a representative of Gay Asylum UK, have informed us that Mehdi will be questioned by a Dutch judge on Monday morning and then the decision will be taken whether to put the boy back on a flight to the United Kingdom or whether he will be allowed to remain in the Netherlands, according to the Dublin Regulation which regulates requests for asylum. “We are satisfied that Mehdi’s case is receiving special attention,” continue Malini, Pegoraro and Picciau “thanks also to the great support received from Gay Asylum UK – which first reported Mehdi’s case to EveryOne -, the Non Violent Radical Party, Transnational and Transparty and Nessuno Tocchi Caino group, who offered their support right from the beginning. All the same, we consider it absolutely unworthy of a civilized country like Holland, that an innocent person is being held in custody in a detention centre like that of Zestienhoven (where episodes of intolerance and abuse of prisoners are frequent) in spite of being a victim of persecution.

EveryOne Group invites all the political and social forces to appeal through the Dutch Embassies throughout the world and through the Dutch Government for the release of the young man and his transfer to a safe place where he can receive adequate assistance while he awaits the judge’s decision.

The Non Violent Radical Party, Transnational and Transparty and Nessuno Tocchi Caino association, together with EveryOne are also making an urgent appeal to the Italian Foreign Office and the Dutch authorities to stop Mehdi being handed over to the British authorities who, according to a bureaucratic procedure that is difficult to modify, would immediately expel him to Iran, where he would be put to death for his homosexuality. In Iran in 2006, Mehdi’s former partner, Parham, was executed after being tortured, and after revealing the names of the boys he had had sexual relations with.

We are asking for the application of the Dublin Regulation concerning asylum and the European Parliament Directive 2004/83/CE on the recognition of refugee status for people in need of international protection, which must be applied by all the Member States of the European Union.

Gay iraniano Mehdi: si trova nel centro di detenzione di Rotterdam

Gruppo EveryOne: “lunedi’ mattina mehdi sara’ ascoltato da un giudice olandese”

Seyed Mehdi Kazemi, il ventenne iraniano omosessuale, membro del Gruppo EveryOne, che rischiava nei giorni scorsi il rimpatrio dall’Olanda al Regno Unito, dove lo attenderebbe la deportazione verso l’Iran (Paese nel quale è ricercato per il reato di “lavat”, sodomia, e nel quale sarebbe messo a morte per la sua omosessualità), si trova attualmente in custodia alle autorità olandesi nel centro di detenzione di Zestienhoven, nei pressi dell’aeroporto di Rotterdam.

Gli attivisti del Gruppo EveryOne avevano, nella giornata del 27 febbraio, sollecitato l’ambasciata olandese a Roma affinché intervenisse con l’ufficio immigrazione olandese per chiedere alle autorità che avevano in custodia Mehdi di permettere al ragazzo di contattare al più presto lo zio a Londra, che non aveva sue notizie da giorni. “Mercoledì scorso, nel pomeriggio, Mehdi ha infatti chiamato lo zio, comunicandogli di trovarsi ancora all’interno del centro di detenzione a Rotterdam” affermano i leader di EveryOne Matteo Pegoraro, Roberto Malini e Dario Picciau. “Il ragazzo sta continuando lo sciopero della fame. A quanto ci hanno riferito sia lo zio di Mehdi, sia Omar Kuddus, esponente di Gay Asylum UK," proseguono "Mehdi verrà ascoltato lunedì mattina da un giudice olandese e verrà poi deciso se il ragazzo sarà rimandato con un volo nel Regno Unito o potrà rimanere in Olanda, secondo quanto dispone il Trattato di Dublino in materia di richiesta di asilo. Siamo soddisfatti” concludono Malini, Pegoraro e Picciau “che, anche grazie al grande sostegno di Gay Asylum UK - che ha denunciato a EveryOne la vicenda -, del Partito Radicale Nonviolento, Transnazionale e Transpartito e di Nessuno Tocchi Caino, che ci hanno supportato sin dall’inizio, il caso di Mehdi stia ricevendo un’attenzione privilegiata. Tuttavia riteniamo assolutamente indegno di un Paese civile come l’Olanda che un innocente venga detenuto in un centro come quello di Zestienhoven – dove sono noti episodi di intolleranza e abuso verso i detenuti – nonostante la sua condizione di perseguitato”.

Il Gruppo EveryOne invita tutte le forze politiche e sociali a mobilitarsi affinché richiedano con forza, attraverso le Ambasciate olandesi nel mondo e attraverso il Governo Olandese, la liberazione del giovane e la sua collocazione in un alloggio sicuro, dove possa ricevere la giusta assistenza, in attesa del pronunciamento del giudice.

Il Partito Radicale Nonviolento, Transnazionale e Transpartito, Nessuno Tocchi Caino insieme al Gruppo EveryOne fanno infine un urgente appello al Ministero italiano degli Esteri e alle  autorità olandesi affinché venga scongiurata la consegna di Mehdi alle autorità inglesi che provvederebbero immediatamente, in base ad una procedura burocratica difficilmente modificabile, ad espellerlo in Iran dove verrebbe ucciso dalle autorità perché omosessuale. Nel 2006, in Iran, fu torturato e giustiziato il suo ex compagno Parham, che fece i nomi dei ragazzi con cui aveva avuto rapporti sessuali.

Chiediamo che venga applicato il Trattato di Dublino in materia di richiesta di asilo e venga applicata la Direttiva europea 2004/83/CE sul riconoscimento dello status di rifugiato per persone bisognose di protezione internazionale che deve essere applicata da tutti i paesi membri dell'Unione Europea.
