EveryOne Group appeals to the Polish people to find the sign stolen from the entrance to Auschwitz
This morning thieves stole the metal sign over the entrance to Auschwitz that bears the slogan “Arbeit macht frei”. The sign is an important symbol of the Holocaust and recalls the millions of innocent victims who were interned there: Jews, Roma, homosexuals, immigrants, Jehovah’s witnesses and dissidents. The thieves may well be boasting about their sad deed to friends and acquaintances.

EveryOne Group is appealing to anybody who has news of the sign’s whereabouts to come forward and return an object to the world that represents Holocaust remembrance and a hope for a more human and tolerant world. We are asking the authorities to allow the thieves to return the sign without further consequences, for example, by allowing them to leave it in a safe place and alert the police or our group.
We are asking our Polish friends to make a great effort to find the Auschwitz sign or we will all be much poorer in a moral, spiritual and civil way. We have to act immediately, without fear, and give a significant contribution to civility and Holocaust memory.
