The news was notified to Agenzia Habeshia by the victims' relatives. EveryOne Group is launching an international appeal to stop the massacre and ensure the release of the remaining 77 hostages.

The news was released by Roberto Malini, Matteo Pegoraro and Dario Picciau, the co-presidents of EveryOne group, who received confirmation of the murders from don Mussie Zerai (an Eritrean priest from Agenzia Habesia) who spoke to the victims' families over the phone. The United Nations, the European Union, the governments of civilized countries, including the Italian government and the Egyptian institutions and authorities, have a moral and civil duty to intervene.
If the murderers are not arrested and the remaining 77 hostages released, Egypt will have legalized the trafficking of human beings, slavery, torture, and cold-blooded murder: a massacre that can be avoided with international diplomatic intervention”. EveryOne Group - an NGO which for years has been working for the protection of the rights of refugees and migrants - has launched an international appeal addressed to the Secretary General of the United Nations; the UN High Commissioner for Refugees; the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights; the President of the European Parliament; the President of the European Commission; the Council of Europe's Committee Against Torture and the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt. In the text, the group invites the international community to intervene immediately to save the lives of the remaining 77 refugees. “We are also asking the Italian Government and all the political figures who care about human rights and the lives of refugees to do everything in their power to prevent new atrocities taking place”, conclude EveryOne's activists.
LATEST NEWS: after the parliamentary question posed in Italy by the Honourable Pietro Marcenaro and the contacts with Egypt made by the European Commission, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees has opened diplomatic procedures with the Egyptian authorities to initiate a search for the band of traffickers and their hostages.
At the same time the British MEP Nigel Farage has appealed for action to be taken by the Egyptian authorities in a letter to the British Ambassador in Cairo. The Ambassador replied that he would look into the case and contact the Egyptian Government immediately.
This is another official reply from Egypt that shows how effective international pressure can be. The inertia of the police and the real difficulties in locating the 77 Eritreans being held in slavery are difficulties that can only be overcome through perseverance and commitment from the international institutions and NGOs.
