Friday, January 14, 2011. It seems that the agreement reached at Camp David should hold regarding border defense in general, with some modifications, based on changes in events on the ground since that historic agreement.

There could be allowances when there is an occasion on which both Israel and Egypt agree that specific types of armament are necessary to carry out a particular mission. This arrangement would be fully detailed providing for cooperation between Israel's and Egypt's military and intelligence sources, and delimited as to scope, time and place.

The situation wherein 250 men, women and children were being held in shipping containers and being raped, tortured, and killed by human traffickers for over 2 months is such a humanitarian crisis on which the two countries could agree. Some of the group have been released, but others are still being held at the present time. In the future, there may be other crisises which cannot currently be foreseen, which would benefit both countries if such a modification to the standing agreement could be implemented.

Such an arrangement could have many positive ramifications, and provide for cooperation between the two countries when neither country alone could proivide a solution.

When activities such as gun running, human trafficking, slave labor, and other activities of third parties are clearly not in the interest of either party to the agreement, then cooperation should be possible along those lines where neither can act within the other's territory, but can combine that which is within the provence of each side toward the success of an agreed upon mission.

Such a capability would also act to deter many activities by third parties which would otherwise take place with near impunity.
